Naruto and the group swim for the shore but the Wagrashi group then attack them below the surface. Naruto defeats them with his Rasengan. On the shore, Aoi injures Idate with his poison darts. Naruto and the group arrived but were also injured with the same. Aoi believed that the Fukusuke had already reached the finish line so he leaves them. Sakura takes medicine given by Tsunade and gives everyone a tablet. The seeked cover in a cave, where Idate tells them that he was once a Konoha ninja but was tricked by Aoi in taking the sealed scroll, and the 2nd Hokage’s sword. He became an outcast and he never back. Naruto tells him that he should never give up. Naruto then carries him on his back and pursues the race.

Idate runs on the island instead of going straight on the boats. Aoi, the leader of the Wagrashi shinobi then sends 3 of his henchmen to go after Idate. Aoi then accompanies the Wagrashi runner Fukusuke. Idate and the group then attive at the top of the island where a boat was waiting for them. Out on the sea, Idate explains to them that back in the village, he noticed a strong wind was coming, which is why he chose a different route to travel by boat. The trio of Wagrashi henchmen caught with them and managed to sink their boat. Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura holds off the ninjas while Idate swims to the shore. On the shore, Aoi was waiting for him.

Kakashi was not present so Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke were given a B Rank Mission to finish on their own. They were sent to the Tea Country to the protect the Wasabi clan in the upcoming fire race against the Wagarashi clan. The Wasabi runner was Idate and they met him when they were still on the road to Tea Country. He tricks them into paying his meal and then leaves the bill. They meet again in Tea Country after the Wasabi boss introduced them. In the fire race, there was shinobi hired by the Wagrashi clan watching them. The runners for both clans line up and race starts. The runners then make a run for the boats. All of a sudden Idate turns and runs on a different path. Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto follow him.
